FY11 NETS-S Grant Information Page

General Information
  • Full name of grant – FY11 Integrating the NETS-S to Prepare College and Career Ready Students
  • 22 systems applied for the grant, we are one of three systems to receive the grant – the other two systems were Jasper County and Macon County
  • Total award $1,077,098 (about $680,000 for equipment, about $390,000 for professional development, and about $8,000 for the evaluation of the grant)  All grant fund must be spent before September 30, 2012.
  • Grant period - Fall 2011 through Spring 2014
  • Grant includes K-8 regular education and special education core subject area classrooms
Grant Goals

Goals of the grant are:

  • Use 21st Century Skills Assessment to increase student mastery of the NETS-S (The NETS-S are technology standards that are published by ISTE – the International Society of Technology Educators.  Georgia has used these technology standards to develop a NETS-S scope and sequence for grades K-8.  See the back side of this page for the NETS-S.)
  • Integrate the NETS-S K-8 Scope and Sequence with the GPS (Georgia Performance Standards) and the Common Core GPS, new state standards
  • Review, refine, and create resources for the SLDS (State Longitudinal Data System)
Grant Equipment

Grant funds have been used to purchase the following equipment:

  • Netbooks  (small laptops) for grades 2-8
  • RM slates (Windows based touch tablet) for grades K, 1, and special education
  • Laptops for teachers
  • Digital cameras & video cameras for each classroom
  • Student response systems at SCES
  • SMART boards at SCMS
  • Infrastructure upgrade to improve wireless connectivity and speed
Professional Development

Grant funds have also been used to provide intensive professional development for SCES and SCMS teachers. 

Including:

  • Four days of training during the 2011 summer
  • Five in-service days during the 2011-2012 school year
  • Over 30 teachers and administrators attended GaETC (Georgia Educators Technology Conference) in November
